Prime Minister Edi Rama did not come away “empty-handed”, from the visit of several days ago to Saudi Arabia, at the height of the debate he had in Albania, due to clashes with the opposition.
While some of the Albanian politicians led by Meta, Majko and Mediu chose Washington for the Morning Prayers and used sporadic meetings with US officials and congressmen, Rama chose the opposite direction, that of visiting Saudi Arabia.
During this visit Prime Minister Rama held a meeting with Crown Prince Mohammed Bin Salman of Saudi Arabia, strongly accused by the US of killing the journalist Jamal Khashoggji inside the Saudi Embassy in Turkey.
After signing some agreements with the Saudi government, and after asking some aircraft for the “Air Albania” company, it seems that Rama achieved a success during this visit.
Beyond putting the Crown Prince Bin Salman under strong US pressure, almost in complete isolation from international partners, Rama managed to “pave the way” for Albanians to go to Saudi Arabia without a visa.
During the meeting, the Albanian government under the leadership of Rama on the proposal of the Foreign Minister, Rama took the decision to abolish visas with Saudi Arabia.
“The government decided to approve, in principle, a Memorandum of Understanding between the Council of Ministers of the Republic of Albania and the government of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia on the abolition of visas for diplomatic, service and private passports holders,” the government’s decisionstates, which holds the signature of Prime Minister Edi Rama himself.
In this way, the head of the Albanian government, while seeing the “gloom” of relations with the US, finds the will, the time and the courage to seek agreement and to sign a pact preciselywith the “target” of Washington, Crown Prince of Saudi of Arabia, Bin Salman
